Clarkston, Adams open with cage wins
CLARKSTON — Clarkston opened up the boys basketball season Friday, using a 20-13 second quarter run to earn a 60-57 triumph over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
The Wolves led 33-29 at the half and halted the Eaglet’s rally in the second half.
Max Collins led a balanced attack for Clarkston, scoring 19 points. Marcus Hardy followed with 14 points. Nick Tatu and Matt Dellinger both finished with eight points and Mitch Baezinger chipped with seven points for Clarkston (1-0). The Wolves were 20-for-25 from the foul line.
Corey Lucas drilled five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points for St. Mary’s. Justin Barrows, a 6-foot-7 transfer from Auburn Hills Oakland Christian, added 12 points for the Eaglets. St. Mary’s scored 24 points from long distance and outscored Clarkston 17-14 in the fourth quarter.
ROCHESTER ADAMS 57, UTICA EISENHOWER 48: The Highlanders and Eagles hooked up for the eighth straight year during the opening week of the season and visiting Adams posted this non-league road triumph Friday.
Adams led 19-14 after the first quarter and 33-28 at the half. The Highlanders (1-0) put the game way with a 24-20 surge in the second half.
Andrew Hammett scored 14 points to pace Adams, which sent 10 of 12 kids into the scoring column. Mario Roveda added 10points and Matt Nestor chipped in with eight points for the Highlanders, who are 5-3 against Ike in the past eight years.
Eisenhower stayed within range with a barrage of 3-ppointers, making 9-of-18 shots from long distance. Alex Frascone scored 13 for the Eagles.
TROY 65, UTICA FORD II 57: Troy used a 22-9 run in the first quarter and never looked back in posting this non-league win Friday.
The Colts (2-0) led 34-29 at the half and outscored the Falcons 31-28 in the second half.
Sophomore James Young scored 27 points, making six 3-pointers to pace Troy. John Stebick added 18 points and Evan Mahone followed with eight points for Ford.
Eric Posavetz scored 20 for Utica Ford.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 67, NOVI FRANKLIN ROAD CHRISTIAN 50: Oakland Christian outscored the guests in all four quarter to earn this MIAC crossover win Friday.
Andrew Kern scored 15 points ot lead Oakland Christian. Nathan Piasecki added nine points and Chris Polite scored six for Oakland Christian, which led 28-20 at the half and 44-30 through three quarters of play.
LIFE SUMMIT HOME SCHOOL 68, ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 53: Nate Pass canned eight three-pointers in nine attempts as Life Summit posted this non-league win Friday over the host Eagles in a non-league game.
Nate Pass had 24 points, shooting 8 for 9 from 3-point distance for Life Summit (6-2).
DJ Szydlowski had a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Nathan Simon and Marquez Hatcher added 12 points, four steals, and four assists each for the Eagles.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
ROMEO 66, OXFORD 14: It was all Romeo Friday night in this rematch of a district opener from last March.
Emma Kimmel scored six for Oxford (0-3). The Wildcats host Rochester Adams Tuesday.
“Even though the score doesn’t reflect it, we are starting to see some things that we are preaching in practice come to life out on the court with our young team,” said coach Al Poynter, who lost eight of his top nine players from last season. “We have to keep a good attitude, give maximum effort, minimize distractions, and stay together, and build on the positives as we enter league play.”
ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 51, LIFE SUMMIT HOME SCHOOL 27: The host Eagles moved to 3-0 and landed three players in double figures in this non-league win Friday at home.
Megan Steiner finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for Rochester Hills. Allise Dubay added 11 points, seven assists and four steals and Caroline Milsk added 10 points for the Eagles.
Jacklyn Vidosh scored 11 points for Life Summit.
TROY BETHANY CHRISTIAN 48, LAKE ORION BAPTIST 38: The Bruins continued their mastery of league opponents, taking down visiting Lions in FBAC Red Division play. Bethany Christian has not lost a league game in five seasons.
Leanna Sprankle scored 12 and Sarah Bishop added nine for the Bruins (3-0, 1-0).
Freshman center Breann Watterworth scored 16 for Lake Orion Baptist (1-1, 0-1).
