Although no local competitors made the annual All-State Super Team, there were four area standouts that were named all-state by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association recently.
There was one local payer in Division 1 and three more in Division 4 to garner accolades on either the first team or honorable mention lists.
In Division 1, Rochester Adams senior Matt Brady, who signed with Elon University, was named honorable mention.
Over in Division 4, state champion Zach Preuss of Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest, a sophomore, was joined on the first team by Auburn Hills Oakland Christian sophomore Tyler Coyne. Nick VanBriesbrouck, a junior from Oakland Christian, was named honorable mention for the Lancers, who finished 10th at the state finals back in mid-June.
Fresh off a win on the Michigan Amatuer circuit, University of Michigan-bound Joey Garber of Petoskey grabbed top honors as expected with the Mr. Golf award for 2010.
Garber was joined on the Super team by East Grand Rapids senior Steven Barbour, Dearborn sophomore Evan Bowser, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central senior Jared Dalga, Birmingham Brother rice junior Nick Dennis, Northville senior Trevor Grigg, Muskegon Mona Shores freshman Reed Hrynewich, and Birmingham Seaholm freshman Francesco Ruffino.
