Hasselbach, Wheatley lead local lineup of all-state softball players

Several softball players with local ties were honored on the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association all-state teams, which were selected Friday and released Monday.

Clarkston’s Taylor Hasselbach earned the top honors as being honored as 2010 Miss Softball-Position Player.

Overall, 13 players from the www.northoaklandsports.com coverage area garnered all-state honors, even on the first team or honorable mention in Division 1 or Division 4.

On the Division 1 All-State First Team, Lake Orion’s Tessa Tomlin (OF), Clarkston’s Hasselbach (SS), and Troy’s Sara Dykowski (2B), Katie Dunn (C) and Jordan Wheatley (P) all made the cut.

On the D-1 All-State Honorable Mention list were Clarkston’s Elizabeth Zezula, Troy’s Colleen Burns, Rochester Adams’ Emily Bryce and Clarkston’s Bailee Braunreuther.

There were no local players that competed in D-2 or D-3.

On the D-4 All-State First Team, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest’s Stephanie Smith (1B) and  Kirsten Smith (SS) made the 30-player list. Northwest also landed Gracen Myers on the D-4 honorable mention list.
