ORTONVILLE — Part of Clarkston’s fine season has been its incredible balance offensively. Defensively, the Wolves have been underrated and sometimes just as good.

Davison found that out Tuesday in its Class A regional semifinal at Ortonville Brandon.

Clarkston collected 37 blocks as a team, the most the Wolves have had a in a three-game match this season, and Clarkston again received some fine balance on the attack in downing the Cardinals, 3-0. The Wolves prevailed 25-14, 25-15, 25-12 in a match that only took an hour to complete

Clarkston (47-3-1) will face Flushing in Thursday’s regional finals, also at Brandon at 7 p.m. Flushing swept Auburn Bay City Western in the first game.

“We have tremendous balance. I think that’s what opponents fear. I don’t want say fear, but teams don’t know where the set is going,” said Clarkston coach Kelly Avenall. “We kind of knew who those sets were going to tonight.”

Davison didn’t. College-bound seniors Alexis Egler had 11 kills and Allison Reis added 10 kills for the Wolves. Meagan McCarty added six kills and Maddie Lightfoot added 22 digs. Gianna Locricchio had several service points for Clarkston.

“We have a lot of girls who can hit the ball and take advantage of it,” said AvenalI thought the biggest thing tonight was our blocking game. I told them it there is anything that will keep us from going far, it is our blocking game. We work on it every day. It’s not the most fun thing sometimes.  We knew we had to shut down (Davison’s Patricia Prince) and we did that. We had a lot (37) blocks in this game, and that’s a lot of points.”

Clarkston led 10-2 in the first game, 12-6 in the second game and opened the third game with another 10-2 surge. The Cardinals led just once on the night, 1-0 in Game 3.

Davison coach Tiffany Burghdorf felt her team simply didn’t show up. The Cardinals finished 30-24-6.

“I don’t think we mentally came to play tonight,” admitted Burghdorf. “Clarkston is a great team and I think that regional final with Flushing is going to be two great teams battling it out.”

Avenall said Clarkston played Flushing in a quad back in mid-August, with the Wolves winning 25-22, 25-20.

“They are a decent team, and their height may give us some problems,” said Avenall. “We will work on hitting around them. I think the biggest thing we have to focus on is their offense. We have to stop their offense.”
