Oakland spiker Brittany Dunn named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year

ELMHURST, Ill. – Senior Brittany Dunn closed out her career by being named to the All-Summit League first team as well earning the Defensive Player of the Year, selected by the league coaches Thursday afternoon.  Audrey Wilson was named to the all-freshman team.

This is the first time that the Golden Grizzlies have won a conference player award in volleyball since joining the league in 1999.  Dunn joins Adrienne Leone (2009) to become the next first team selection in school history.  It is the third time in the last four years that Oakland has been represented on the all-freshman team.

Dunn led the league with 5.24 digs per set in conference play and currently ranks 37th in the country with 5.08 digs per set over 106 sets.  She was named the defensive player of the week four times, including a record three weeks in a row outright.  Dunn recorded double-digit digs in 27 consecutive matches and her 538 digs is second best in single-season school history.  She had a career-best of 33 digs in a 3-2 win over North Dakota State on Oct. 15.

For her career, Dunn finished with 1,451 digs, second best in Oakland history and 11th in Summit League history.  She recorded double-digit digs in 53 of her last 57 matches and averaged 3.57 digs per set, second best in school history and among the top 20 in league history.  Dunn also set the school record for sets played with 407, was second in service aces with 94 and third with 0.23 aces per set.

Wilson was third on the team with 2.07 kills per set in league play and second on with 2.03 kills per set overall.  She had seven double-digit kill matches with a season-high of 14 against IPFW on Sept. 10 and Oral Roberts on Oct. 9.  Wilson had 10 kills with no errors in 18 attempts for a career-best hitting percentage of .556 against UMKC on Nov. 9.
