WEDNESDAY’S ROUNDUP: Rochester holds onto OAA-Blue lead with 55-46 win over Oxford

ROCHESTER HILLS — It’s been 11 years since Rochester High claimed any type of championship in boys basketball. The Falcons won the OAA Division II that winter.

Rochester is well on its way of ending that 11-season streak.

The Falcons took another step in the direction of a league championship Wednesday, tripping up visiting Oxford 55-46 in OAA Blue Division play.

Billy Klotz finished with a game-high 23 points to lead Rochester. Taylor Perry added 15 points and Nick Bradley scored eight for the Falcons.

Rochester (11-4, 9-1) used a 21-10 run to take an early command after eight minutes of play. Oxford (5-10, 3-7) worked its way to a 30-21 deficit with an 11-9 spurt in the second quarter.

The Wildcats outscored Rochester 12-9 in the third quarter to pull to within 39-33, only to see the Falcons close with a 16-13 run in the final stanza.

Mark Hazelwood canned a trio of three-pointers and finished with 19 points for Oxford. Chris Calvin added 12 points for the Wildcats and Jacques Tussaint scored six.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 48, BIRMIONGHAM ROEPER 42: Abbey Looker scored 14 points and Kim Lepor added 11 points to lead Northwest to this MIAC Blue Division win over the visiting Roughriders. Northwest is 9-8 overall, 5-5 in league plat. Kiera Canales had 12 points for Roeper (4-11, 3-7).

CLARKSTON 56, SOUTHFIELD 32: Erin Davenport poured in 27 points with six steals in leading the Wolves to the OAA crossover win. Anna Manilla followed with 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves (12-5). Noelle Hariston had 11 points to pace Southfield.

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 32, STERLING HEIGHTS LIFE SUMMIT 22: The Eagles continued to roll with this non-conference win. Megan steiner led the charge with 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals, while Jane Crile added six points and five rebounds for Rochester Hills Christian (18-1). Jackie Vidosh scored 10 points for Life Summit (9-7).
