ROCHESTER HILLS – Sophomore Ledrick Eackles has decided to leave the Oakland University men’s basketball team, announced by head coach Greg Kampe on Thursday. Eackles, a native of Zachary, La., will leave at the conclusion of the winter semester.

“I enjoyed my two years here at Oakland and I am thankful to be on two great teams,” said Eackles. “I played with two great point guards in Johnathon Jones and Reggie Hamilton and I was blessed to play two years with Keith Benson. It’s in mine and my family’s best interests for me to head back down south and closer to home.”

Eackles played in 31 games this past season and made three starts. He averaged 4.8 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game, while dishing out 35 assists and had 21 steals. Eackles was a spark plug off the bench in 2009-10 and finished second on the team with 32 steals. He posted 13 double-figure scoring games in his two seasons and played in a total of 65 games in his career.

“The coaching staff wishes Ledrick all the best,” said Kampe. “He did a great job while he was here at Oakland. He leaves with two straight championships and his time here was very productive for Ledrick and Oakland. I do understand why he is leaving and wish him nothing but the best. I will always cheer for Ledrick Eackles.”
