Oxford stuns state-ranked Brother Rice

OXFORD — Oxford’s first baseball win of the season came in grand fashion Tuesday.

The Wildcats stunned Division 1 fourth-ranked Birmingham Brother Rice, 5-1, in a non-conference game.

Oxford scored a run in the fifth and added four in the sixth while surrendering only one run in the top of the seventh.

Matt Economou was 2-3 with a two-run home run for the Wildcats (1-12), while Colin McGeen went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Oxford.

Matt Zitny went seven innings, giving up three hits while striking out five and walking two for the win from the bump.

Eric Reppenthal suffered the loss on the mound for Brother Rice (22-4).
