Uzoigwe becomes PDL’s all-time leading scorer in Bucks’ rout of Indiana

CANTON, Mich. – After Saturday, Kenny Uzoigwe stands alone on top.

After tallying two goals in the Michigan Bucks 4-0 win over the Indiana Invaders on Saturday,Michigan Bucks  forward Kenny Uzoigwe now stands as the United Soccer League-Premier Development League’s all-time leading goal scorer. Uzoigwe’s scored his 77^th and 78^th goals of his career, the most in PDL history, surpassing Des Moines Menace Legend Tomas Boltnar.

“Setting the record is a great achievement, not just for myself but for the organization,” Uzoigwe said.

Uzoigwe’s first goal, which set the record, put the Bucks on the board in the 14^th minute. Defender Stew Givens (Troy/Oakland University) hurled the ball into the Indiana box, where Uzoigwe headed it past a diving Invaders goalkeeper Avery Steinlage.

“One of the things that we wanted to accomplish in the first 15 minutes was to get a good start; get a goal, and then we would build on that…. I thought that’s what we did. But it wasn’t just my goals, we had a team effort,” Uzoigwe said.

In the 36^th minute, Uzoigwe struck again. After Steinlage blocked but failed to corral an incoming shot from defender Tony Walls, Uzoigwe tucked the rebound into the back of the net for his second of the game.

The goal gave the Bucks a 2-0 lead, which they would carry into halftime. Michigan outshot Indiana six to three in the first half and had a four to zero advantage in corner kicks.

“I thought we played sloppy in moments, but overall, it was crisp, clean and we finished our chances,” Givens said. “Finishing our chances just makes the game a lot easier.”

In the 66^th minute, on another powerful Givens throw-in man-of-the-match, Walls headed home to extend the Bucks’ lead to three.

Michigan is 1-1-1 on the season.
