BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Oakland University is not having much luck with teams from power conferences.

Goalkeeper Payj O’Shea recorded five saves as the Oakland women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Indiana on Sunday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium.  It was the third consecutive match for the Golden Grizzlies against a team from a BCS conference.

“We played very well in the first half by dictating the pace of play,” said OU head coach Nick O’Shea. “One of our goals against the non-conference opponents is to control the ball and impose our style of play, which we did in the first 45 minutes.”

Indiana forward Orianica Velasquez scored the game-winning goal off an assist from midfielder Jordan Woolums in the 54th minute. A member of the 2011 Columbia Women’s World Cup team, Velasquez led the IU offense with eight shots, four of which were on goalfor the Hoosiers (2-1-1).

The Golden Grizzlies (0-3-0) played a scoreless first half against the Hoosiers. Both teams finished with six shots each in the opening half.

Forward Meghan Reynolds led the offense for the Golden Grizzlies, recording three shots against the Hoosiers.  Midfielder’s Julianne Boyle and Nicole DeLuca were also involved on the attack, both with one shot on goal.

The Golden Grizzlies get back to action on Thursday, Sept. 1 when they take on in-state rival Michigan State at DeMartin Soccer Complex in East Lansing.
