Fifth-ranked Novi rips No. 3 Troy
TROY— In a battle of state powerhouse teams, Novi ripped Troy 4-1 in a non-league boys soccer match Monday.
Novi, which entered the week ranked fifth in Division 1, doubled the number of goals Troy has allowed this season. Third-ranked Troy had given up only four goals all season entering the match.
Both teams traded off a goal in the first half, while Novi exploded for three second-half goals. Previously, Troy had only given up two goals in one game to 10th-ranked Rochester Adams, which was the only team to have beaten the colts before Monday.
Fillip Buniewicz gave Troy (12-2-1) an early lead, with Chase Jabbori knotting the score for the Wildcats (11-2-0).
Novi came out and scored three times in the first 15 minutes of the second half to ice the game. Matt Wilson, Alex Ferrini and Sean Hazen scored in succession in the second half for Novi.
Andy Netter Ricky Stone combined for seven saves in goal for Novi. Matt Smolinski had seven saves for Troy, which has not yielded four goals in a game in two seasons.
