Lancers turn back No. 1 Roeper a second time

| October 5, 2011 | Comments (0)

AUBURN HILLS — Twice this season, Birmingham Roeper took over the No. 1 spot in the Division 4 boys soccer state rankings. Twice this season, the Roughriders’ next opponent after reaching the summit was Auburn Hills Oakland Christian.

Any guesses to whom Roeper’s second loss came to on Tuesday.

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian, which dipped to sixth in the rankings this week after a 3-0 shutout loss to second-ranked Allen Park Inter-City Baptist last Friday, bounced back in a major way Tuesday with an 1-0 overtime victory over Roeper in a MIAC blue Division contest.

Daniel Smith scored the game winner on an assist by John VanNoord.  Luke Combs netted the shutout, his sixth of the season, for Oakland Christian (11-3-1, 7-2-0).

Roeper is now 13-2-0 overall and 7-2-0 in conference play.
