Alexander’s triple is Bison’s prized trophy in hunt of Grizzlies
ROCHESTER HILLS — Lawrence Alexander went hunting Grizzlies Saturday night and the hunt was successful.
Alexander’s long three-pointer with 4.1 points stunned Oakland University’s homecoming crowd and delivered the Bison a prized trophy in the form of a 78-75 victory over the Grizzlies in a Summit League men’s basketball contest at the Athletics Center O’rena.
Oakland’s Reggie Hamilton connected on his sixth 3-pointer to tie it at 75-75 with 34 seconds left before the Bison (14-7, 7-4) worked the clock for Alexander’s winner.
Alexander and Marshall Bjorklund each scored 19 points to lead North Dakota State, which shot 63 percent (29-of-46) from the floor. Taylor Braun scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers, and Eric Carlson had nine rebounds and six assists.
Hamilton went 13-of-25 from the floor with his six 3-pointers for 37 points for the Golden Grizzlies (12-12, 6-6). Drew Valentine scored 15 points and Travis Bader hit four 3-pointers for his 12 points for Oakland.
The score was tied nine times, the lead changed hands nine times and neither team ever led by more than nine.
The Bison swept the season series for the first time.
