Oakland travels to Illinois State for Bracketbuster Game

ROCHESTER, Mich. Oakland  will face Illinois State in the ESPN Bracketbuster game, announced by ESPN on Monday night. The Golden Grizzlies and Redbirds will tip at 5:05 p.m. ET inside Redbird Arena.

“Illinois State has a great basketball tradition and it’s a privilege for Oakland to play them,” said OU coach Greg Kampe, whose team is 12-12. “Redbird Arena is a great facility and they have great fans, so this will be a tremendous challenge for us.”

 

The Golden Grizzlies won their first-ever Division I game at Illinois State, 72-71, on Nov. 15, 1998. The Redbirds (!4-8) lead the all-time series with OU, 3-1. Here is a look at the series:

12/8/73                at Illinois State   L, 98-53

11/16/97              at Illinois State   L, 101-66

11/15/98              at Illinois State   W, 72-71

11/21/99              at Oakland          L, 72-67

 

This marks the first year that Oakland is participating in the ESPN Bracketbuster game.
