CLARKSTON — Since the inception of the OAA in 1994-95, Clarkston has failed to finish in the top half of the OAA Red Division boys basketball standings only one time.
This season, the Wolves continued to prove that they are amongst the elite in the four-division league and have clinched at least a share of the conference crown.
Clarkston pulled the regular season sweep of rival Pontiac Tuesday night at home, topping the Phoenix, 58-52.
The win gave Clarkston (14-2, 9-0) at least a share of the conference crown with three league games to go. A win against second-place Southfield Lathrup or bottom tier schools Southfield or West Bloomfield over the next two weeks will guarantee the title outright.
The Wolves have won 11 league titles since the inception of the OAA 18 years ago and have finished in the top half 17 of 18 times.
Clarkston led 27-24 at the half and held a 42-41 advantage entering the fourth quarter. The Wolves led 51-43 with just over four minutes to go before staving off the Phoenix down the stretch.
The Wolves outscored Pontiac (11-6, 5-4) 16-11 in the fourth quarter, although the Phoenix were able to close the gap down to four points inside the final 45 seconds.
Junior guard Jordan Dasuqi and Mitch Baenziger both scored 23 points to lead Clarkston. Chance Huth added six points for the Wolves, while Nick Tatu, who scored 47 points last week against Troy, was held off the score sheet.
The Wolves were also missing senior Matt Dellinger, who is out indefinitely with an injury.
Jemarea Samples hit a trio of three-points and led Pontiac with 19 points. Dijon Cogdell added 12 points and Jarod Jones chipped in with 11 points for the Phoenix.
