COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD: Oakland breaks several school records at IWU Pre-Conference Challenge
MARION, Ind. – Serena San Cartier set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles and Shannon Getchen set a new school record in the discus throw, while David Magnotte won the 1,500-meter run as the Oakland men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Indiana Wesleyan University Pre-Conference Challenge at IWU Outdoor Track Facility on Saturday.
“This was really a nice meet that they put on today at IWU,” said head coach Paul Rice. “Shannon Getchen had some nice discus throws and Serena San Cartier ran great to set new school records. These are great signs for our team as we move into the last three weeks of our season.”
San Cartier won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49 to set the school record and Getchen finished third with a final mark of 118 feet, 11 inches in the discus throw to set Oakland’s best mark.
Micah Jones earned a first-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 8.5 inches. She also earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 2.5 inches and a third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches. Autumn Cleverley earned a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.58.
The team of Shaunte Roberts, Meaghan Ogonowski, Krystal Herron and San Cartier finished second in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.15.
Magnotte finished first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:05.71, followed closely by Jake Magier, finishing third, with a time of 4:10.21. Andrew Stebbins continued his strong outdoor season with a second-place finish in the shot put with a final mark of 52 feet, 5.50 inches and Joe Osentoski finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:34.22.
In the 800-meter run, Anthony Sterzick and David Koponen finished fifth and sixth, with times of 1:59.14 and 1:59.35, respectively. Derrek Williams earned a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.31, while Anthony Gallegos, Marcus Travis and Darin Lawrence each earned sixth-place finishes.
The Golden Grizzlies will be in action next weekend as they travel to the Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, and the Lyle Bennet Open, hosted by Central Michigan.
