PREP TRACK: Rochester runs to sweep of Stoney Creek
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester and Rochester Stoney Creek are in the same division for track and field for the first time since Stoney Creek opened its doors in 2003-03. Rochester made sure the first-ever league meeting between the two district rivals would end up in a sweep of the Cougars.
Rochester’s boys posted a narrow, 67-61 win Tuesday, while the Falcons’ girls team dusted past Stoney Creek, 76-52, in OAA Red Division competition.
Blake Pozolo won the 1,600 (4:42.4), 800 (2:05.9) and 3,200 (10:08.0), while the Falcons’ 1,600-meter relay quartet of Brandon Tyus, Justin Van Dyke, Jacob Van Dyke, and Cortez Kennedy clinched the meet with a 3:37.4 clocking for Rochester (1-3, 1-3).
Tyus also broke the tape in the 100 (11.0) and 200 (23.1), while joining Mike Ritchie, TJ Dean and Kennedy for a win in the 800 relay (1:35.9).

Stoney Creek won the 3,200 relay (8:52.8) and Mike Ruiz won the high jump (5-6) and 110 hurdles (16.0).
Mike Eldridge captured the shot put (45-11), while Kyle Wesley the discus (120-2).
Rochester’s girls won three of the four relays and 11 of 16 events total to move to 3-1 overall and in the OAA-Red.
The foursome of Davonne Bolden, Morgan Saunders, Emily Leppek and Monjoa Likine captured the 800 relay (1:49.9), while the same unit combined forces to win the 400 relay (52.7). Bolden, Dayna Pienta, Saunders and Leppek took the 1,600 relay (4:18.2) to cap the meet.
The Falcons swept the field events, with Asabe Banpolo winning the shot put, Dreanna Williams the discus (92-2), Leppek the long jump (16-6.5) and Maddie Schweihert the high jump (4-10).
