ROCHESTER HILLS — Ralph Hill is headed north.
The 6-foot-6 swingman had left the University of Dayton last month and has officially transferred to Oakland University to play basketball for head coach Greg Kampe.
Hill, who hails from Westerville, Ohio, signed Friday with OU. He played two years for the Flyers, competing in 25 games as a sophomore.
“This is huge for us,” said Kampe. “He is a really good player that fits in with what we do in the dribble-drive offense. He can rebound and can shoot the three.”
Hill will have to sit out one school year due to NCAA transfer rules and has two years of eligibility for 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Hill averaged only 7.5 minutes per game last season, posting averages of 1.4 points and 1.9 rebounds an outing. He shot 41 percent (13-for-32) from the floor (.406 percentage).
He played sparingly as a freshman in 2010-11, averaging only 3.3 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds a game.
Coming out of high school, Hill was an All-State honoree at Westerville North High School and averaged 22.8 points per game during his senior season. He struggled to gain many minutes with the Flyers during his first two years of college.
