SATURDAY’S BOYS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Oakland Christian holds off Northwest; Athens edges Traverse City West
AUBURN HILLS — Auburn Hills Oakland Christian held its ground in the final minutes Saturday and posted a 3-2 MIAC Blue Division boys soccer victory over rival Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest.
Northwest’s Kevin you headed in a cornerkick from Jeff Todd with 3:45 left but the Crusaders’ final push could not result with an equalizer.
John VanNoord and Chasen Massey staked Oakland Christian to a 2-1 halftime lead. Daniel Smith made it 3-1 midway through the second half for the Lancers (4-1).
Chris Polite also had an assist for Oakland Christian.
Chris Phillips scored on a free kick to tie it at 1-1 in the 25th minute for Lutheran Northwest (4-4-0, 3-4-0).
TROY ATHENS 2, TRAVERSE CITY WEST 1: Aaron Gabauer had a goal and assisted on the game-winner in leading the Red Hawks to this non-league win Saturday.
Bryan Lawson scored the final goal and Max Klitzke picked up an assist in the game for Athens (6-2-0).
Matt Smith scored for Traverse City West (7-1-2).
