SAGINAW — Despite splintering off into a solo program this season, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes apparently has enough talent to make another deep run in the Division 4 postseason.
The Lakers advanced to the Elite Eight for sixth straight time, tripping up Harbor Beach 3-1 Wednesday in a Division 4 regional semifinal at Saginaw Valley Lutheran.
WOLL competed the past five years as a unified program with Clarkston Everest Collegiate (2010-2014), which formed its own team this school year.
This marked the eighth straight season that the Lakers have won at least a district crown and the sixth straight season the squad has reached at least the regional finals.
WOLL captured the state championship in 2010, lost in the regional finals in 2011 and finished as the D-4 state runner-up each of the past three years.
Against Harbor Beach, Alex Troy opened the scoring in the eighth minute to set the tone, ripping a shot from 18 yards out that landed top shelf with 32:27 left in the opening half.
Allison Minajorana added a goal with 19:52 remaining in the half on a nice individual effort, picking off a pass and ripping a shot into the corner of the goal from 25 yards out.
Harbor Beach’s Justine Roggenbuck cut the deficit to one goal with 14:47 remaining, tucking in a lose-range shot following a feed into the box by Jackie Holdwick.
The Pirates could not solve the Lakers’ defense again.
WOLL scored its third goal 10:21 before halftime, again Minajorana scoring off a pass from Danielle Napolitan to cap the scoring.
Karli Flesher made stops on eight of nine shots for the win in goal for the Lakers.
Our Lady of the Lakes will face Lansing Christian for the regional championship at 5 p.m. Friday at Saginaw Valley Lutheran.
