BOYS SOCCER: Eisenhower gains its revenge on Lake Orion

| October 15, 2020 | Comments (0)

LAKE ORION — Stake any team with a two-goal lead inside the first 3:19 of a soccer match is never a good idea.

Utica Eisenhower did just that a year ago in its Division 1 district semifinals game with Lake Orion. The Eagles lost that match 2-0 to the Dragons to see their 2019 season end abruptly.

Fast forward to this year and the two met again in the postseason — this time in a D-1 pre-districts clash. Eisenhower quickly turned the tables and enacted some sweet postseason revenge on Lake Orion, topping the Dragons 3-0 to advance to the district semifinals next week.

The Eagles will face Rochester Stoney Creek (8-2-3) at 7 p.m. Monday at Romeo.

Five different players reached the points column in the win. Gjon Melakuqi scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Eisenhower (6-1-4). Dominic Nalou and Enzo Amicucci also scored, while Devin White and Rocco Galati drew assists for the Eagles.

Evan DeJong, one of the state’s top 10 goalkeepers, picked up the clean sheet for the Eagles. It was Eisenhower’s fourth shutout on the shortened campaign.

Eisenhower has outscored the opposition 33-13 this season, including 15-2 over the past five games.

Lake Orion finished the season 6-5-2.
