FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Senior Anna Patritto provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Oakland University women’s basketball team in a 72-60 Summit League loss to IPFW on Saturday at the Allen County War Memorial Arena.  Despite shooting 45.5 percent from the field, the Golden Grizzlies could not overcome a hot-shooting IPFW team that hit 50.9 percent from the floor.

“I wish that we had been able to put together two halves tonight,” said Oakland head coach Beckie Francis. “We definitely learned a lot from this game and have to give a lot of credit to a good IPFW that made shots tonight.”

Trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half, Oakland (11-7, 5-2) went on a 14-1 run to pull within seven points with 2:32 remaining in the game. After forcing a steal, the Golden Grizzlies missed a chance to cut deeper into the lead and eventually fell by the 12-point margin.

Oakland finished with four players in double-digits led by sophomore Bethany Watterworth’s 14 points. It is the 17th time in 18 games that Watterworth has finished a game in double-figures. Junior Sharise Calhoun was second on the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Patritto’s 12 and 10 points from freshman Malika Glover.

The Golden Grizzlies led early, before a 3-pointer by Jordan Zuppe put the Mastodons ahead 8-6.  It was the start of a 22-6 run that put IPFW (11-5, 5-2) in front by 15 points. The Mastodons led 41-27 at the halftime break behind 11 first-half points from Stephanie Rosado.

Rosado finished the night 7-for-12 from the floor with 15 points. Chelsey Jackson also chipped in with 14 points. Anne Boese and Amanda Hyde both finished with 13 points, the two players combined for five of the Mastodons seven 3-pointers in the game. IPFW shot 41.2 percent from beyond the arc in the game.

Coming into the game ranked 21st in the nation in turnover ratio, Oakland had 17 turnovers and just 11 assists. Despite a 12-4 record against IPFW, the Golden Grizzlies are just 3-4 on the road against the Mastodons having dropped the last two contests at War Memorial Arena.

Oakland will continue its three-game Summit League road trip next Saturday at North Dakota State at 6 p.m. (EST).
