SATURDAY’S GIRLS SOCCER: Notre Dame Prep blanks Divine Child to clinch title share
DEARBORN — With three games against state-ranked teams looking on the horizon this week, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep made sure it didn’t look too far ahead by blanking Dearborn Divine Child, 2-0, Saturday.
The win clinched at least a tie for the CHSL-AA Division title and secures a spot in the CHSL playoffs later this month.
Taylor Timko scored both goals for the Fighting Irish. The first one came off a service from Lindsey Klei and the second goal came off a pass from Sarah Pieciak.
“It was a physical game with the ref issuing several calls for late challenges by both squads,” offered Notre Dame Prep coach Jim Stachura. “This was still a great win on a tough field to play on.”
Alex Arnoldy got the shutout in net with 10 saves
“Defensively we have been much better,” note Stachura. “Anna Terzano, Sarah Pieciak, and Savannah Baumgart have led the defensive resurgence for us this week with two shutouts.”
“The good news for us is that we have clinched the CHSL AA division for the second year in a row and will be hosting the No. 2 seed of the Central Division, which is either (Birmingham) Marian or (Livonia) Ladywood the week of May 14.”
