COLLEGE TRACK: Oakland breaks five school records at Len Paddock Invite
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – John Butler, Lia Jones, Kara Lotan, Kyle Wilson and the women’s 4×100-meter relay team all broke school records as the Oakland men’s and women’s Track and Field team completed action at the Len Paddock Invitational, the final meet before The Summit League Outdoor Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan at Ferry Field on Friday.
“This is what you want to see the week before our biggest meet of the season,” said head coach Paul Rice. “Our coaching staff is very excited about our chances to do very well next week. We can definitely have some great individual accolades come out of The Summit League meet.”
Jones set the school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:41.96, good for a seventh place finish in the event. Lotan broke Oakland’s javelin throw mark, earning a first-place finish, with a mark of 107 feet, 2 inches. The 4×100-meter relay team of Shaunte Roberts, Serena San Cartier, Meaghan Ogonowski and Micah Jones ran the fastest time in school history with a time of 48.18, good for a third-place finish.
Micah Jones earned a third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 7 inches and in the triple jump with a jump of 38 feet, 11.5 inches while finishing fourth in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 10.5 inches.
Wilson followed up his record-setting performance last week by breaking his own record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.29 as he finished fourth in the event. Butler earned a runner-up finish and broke the school record in the javelin throw with a mark of 189 feet, 1 inch.
Darin Lawrence finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.29 and Niklas Rippon earned a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87.
The Golden Grizzlies will travel to Fargo, N.D. next week as they compete in The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by North Dakota State at Ellig Sports Complex.
