COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Oakland gains commitment from Carter
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Raphael Carter is the newest addition to the Oakland men’s basketball team, announced by head coach Greg Kampe.
Carter, a 6-foot-9 forward from Columbus, Ohio, was rated No. 66 of all junior college players and led Diablo Community College to a Big 8 Conference title last season.
“We are excited to get Raphael (Carter), because he fills a void that we have,” said Kampe. “For us to get a player with his potential this late doesn’t typically happen. He’s athletic, can finish strong at the rim, and plays above the rim. We expect him to be a strong rebounder in The Summit League.”
A McDonald’s All-American Top 24 Award recipient in high school, Carter attended Olentangy High School where he earned all-state and all-district accolades. He went on to Diablo CC where he was named all-state honorable mention and all-league. Carter averaged 6.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots per game as a sophomore.
Carter and the Golden Grizzlies will open practice this Friday, Oct. 12th from 5-7 p.m. The Madnezz will follow at 9 p.m. with tons of giveaways and performances for fans to enjoy.
