COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER: Northwestern blanks Oakland
EVANSTON, Ill. — Goalkeeper Payj O’Shea gathered seven saves for Oakland Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 loss at Northwestern at Lakeside Field. With the loss, Oakland drops to 3-4-1 overall while Northwestern improves to 2-4-2.
“We really struggled to connect our passes,” said interim head coach Dave Morgan . “It wasn’t our best effort collectively. The bright side, however, is we’ll fix it. Our mistakes were nothing we can’t correct.”
In a game that featured light rain that turned heavy in the second half, Northwestern posted a 23-5 shots advantage, but only a 9-2 mark in shots on goal. The Wildcats tallied one goal in each half – in the 39th and 68th minutes – for the game’s only scores.
The margin on corner kicks was much tighter with a 6-4 lead in favor of the host Wildcats. Oakland had two corner kicks apiece in each half.
