GIRLS SOCCER: Midland Calvary upends defending MACS state champion Troy Bethany for title in first season

ROCHESTER HILLS — Most programs take years to build. Midland Calvary Baptist did it just a few short months.
The Kings’ first-year girls soccer program was the last team standing this season —its first as varsity program — with a 3-2 victory over defending Michigan Association of Christian Schools state champion Troy Bethany Christian in the 2015 finals at Rochester Hills Christian.
The Kings finished the campaign 23-1-0 and it capped the year where they also won MACS Division I state crowns in girls volleyball and girls basketball dating back to October.
Brienna Schmidt and Chelsea Szilagyi helped staked Midland Calvary Baptist to an a 2-1 halftime lead, sandwiched around a goal from Troy Bethany Christian’s Jenny Green.
Szilagyi drew the assist on Schmidt’s tally, while Szilagyi’s go-ahead goal came unassisted on an 18-yard laser.
Courtney Warner scored in the 65th minute for what proved to be the game-winner. y Bethany’s Green netted a goal with six minutes to play the cap the scoring — although the Bruins could not net the equalizer.
Jenna Wallenbeck made 12 saves for the win in goal for Calvarytes to preserve the victory Baptist, including a pair inside the final 10 minutes to preserve the victory.
Calvary Baptist outshot Bethany Christian by a 24-14 margin in the contest.
