ROCHESTER HILLS – Oakland University received a bout of good news this week.

A month after losing junior Blake Cushingberry for the season with a torn ACL, the Golden Grizzlies gained back junior guard/forward Drew Maynard.

OU head coach Greg Kampe welcomed back Maynard on Tuesday, and the 6-foot-7 Lake Orion-product did practice with the team on Tuesday.

“Drew (Maynard) has taken the first step in the process of rejoining the team,” said Kampe. “He is not reinstated for game action at this point.”

Maynard was indefinitely suspended from the team on Oct. 12 for violation of team policies. He played in 32 games in 2009-10 and averaged 4.7 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game. Maynard started a couple of games diring both his freshman and sophomore seasons at Oakland.

Maynard was a top-10 in-state prospect coming out of high school in 2008. He started over 3.5 years at Lake Orion in high school.
