Oakland cruises past UMKC
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Senior Keith Benson led the way with his sixth double-double of the season, 20 points and 10 rebounds, and senior Will Hudson scored 17 points to lead Oakland University (5-3, 2-0) to a rout over UMKC, 99-62, in Summit League men’s basketball action on Saturday inside the Athletics Center O’Rena.
“That was as clean as a game as I have seen here,” said OU coach Greg Kampe who won his 450th career game today. “We did it for the entire game too.”
Oakland has now won 15 straight games at home and 22 versus league opponents. The Golden Grizzlies are currently riding a 13-game winning streak against The Summit League.
Junior Reggie Hamilton scored 16 points against his former team, and senior Larry Wright posted his first-ever double-double of his career with 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Ledrick Eackles reached double figures with 11.
The Golden Grizzlies began the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back as they shot 75 percent (21-for-28) in the opening 20 minutes and led 60-27. The lead grew as large as 43 in the game and the 37-point win was the second largest margin of victory against a league opponent in school history.
