HAMTRAMCK — The bad news for Troy is that sophomore James Young was held to under 20 points Tuesday night. The good news for the Colts is that Young only had to play one half of basketball. Troy raced out to a 33-17 lead on host Hamtramck and never looked back in posting a 82-41 non-conference boys basketball victory.

“This is one of those games where we just came out on fire,” offered Troy coach Gary Fralick. We got a chance to play a lot of guys because of it. We had great balance and a lot of different guys scored.

“James young was back at it again. He has had a great start to the season,” said Fralick. “We only played him half of the game. We didn’t need to play the starters a ton of minutes.”

Young finished the night with 18 points, 11 rebounds and three steals to lead a balanced attack. Tarae Stozier, John Stibich and Al Wise all added 10 points for Troy (4-1), Evan Mahone added eight points and Mike Sully chipped in with six points and eight rebounds for the Colts.

Troy used a 21-12 run in the second quarter to take a commanding 54-29 lead by the half. Another 20-7 surge in the third quarter set off the running clock.

Anthony Nrecas scored 20 for Hamtramck (1-2).
