Maynard leaves Oakland’s basketball team

ROCHESTER – Oakland University guard Drew Maynard has decided to leave the men’s basketball team to pursue other opportunities, announced by head coach Greg Kampe on Wednesday. Maynard, a native of Lake Orion, Mich., plans on transferring for the winter semester.

“We wish Drew the best as he moves forward,” said Kampe. “We won a lot of basketball games with him, but he missed a lot of time this season and he feels that his best options lie elsewhere.”

A 6-foot-7 shooting guard, Maynard returned from a suspension on Dec. 14 at then-No. 7 Tennessee. He played five games this season before making his decision to transfer.

“With all the time I missed, I felt like it would be difficult to get into the regular playing rotation,” said Maynard. “I enjoyed my time at Oakland University and hope they continue the success we have had over the last two seasons.”

Maynard played in 73 games for Oakland and made 27 starts. He scored 409 points, averaging 5.6 points per game, 2.6 rebounds per game and blocked 24 shots. He dished out 55 assists and shot 33 percent from beyond the arc (56-for-170). Maynard averaged 16.5 minutes per game during his career and had several highlight dunks for the Golden Grizzlies.

Maynard was a 3.5-year starter at Lake Orion High School, where he earned all-state honors and is one of the all-time leading scorers in that program’s history.

He has not announced on where he will transfer to next semester.

Its such as you read my thoughts! You appear to understand so much approximately this, such as you wrote the book in it or something. I feel that you can do with some % to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is wonderful blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
