Lake Orion’s Bell named Detroit Lions high school Coach of the Year

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions have named Lake Orion football head coach Chris Bell the 2010 High School Coach of the Year.
Bell and his Lake Orion Dragons captured the Division 1 state title with a victory over Plymouth in the championship game at Ford Field last Saturday. The Dragons concluded the 2010 season with a 13-1 record to claim their first state title in school history. They were state runner-up in 2008, a state semifinalist in 1998 and a playoff team in 12 of the past 13 seasons.

Bell finished his 13th season as head coach at Lake Orion, where he has amassed a 112-35 record and 13 winning seasons. He served as an assistant for two seasons before taking over as head coach. He also has served as head coach for Linden and Center Line St. Clement for two seasons each, where he had a pair a playoff teams. His overall record as a head coach for 17 seasons is 133-53.

Bell is a graduate of Lake Orion and Albion College.
