OXFORD — The good news for Oxford’s boys swimming and diving team is that the Wildcats are vastly improving for a program that is only a couple of years old.

The Wildcats set eight new school records Thursday in a double-dual meet with Bloomfield hills Andover and Troy Athens. The bad news for the Wildcats is it was only enough to gain a split.

Oxford defeated Athens by the narrowest of margins 92-91, but came up short against Andover (113-70) to move to 2-2 overall.

This was a very exciting meet, with many new school and pool records. I am so proud of the boys and excited to see what they can do on Thursday when we host Hazel Park.

Oxford set a school record in the 200 medley relay (1:51.68).

Joey Tasch was second against in the 200 free (2:06.44), Jarred Butler was second in the 200 IM (2:22.08), another record. Jimmy Walker set a record with a double win in the 50 free (23.04), while Blake Hibdon was third against Andover and first against Athens in the100 free (55.46). Butler was second in both meets in the 500 (5:15.43), yet another record.

In the 200 free relay, Oxford took first against Athens and second to Andover with a 1:43.94 clocking.

Hibdon was second against Andover and first against Athens in the 100 backstroke (1:06.00). Zach Lavener took the 100 breaststroke (1:13.69), while the Wildcats’ 400 free relay clocked 3:36.38 for the final record on the night, good for a double win.
