BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Clarkston finds groove in rout of North Farmington; Oakland Christian escapes Inter-City Baptist
FARMINGTON HILLS — Clarkston has kind of become the Dr. Heckyl and Mr. Jive of the OAA basketball world.
Three days after being thumped by Pontiac, the Wolves were the ones administering the beatdown on host North Farmington.
Clarkston came out of the gate with a 19-4 run and never looked back with a 66-35 OAA Red Division triumph.
The Wolves (5-5, 3-2) led 33-13 at the half and 49-28 entering the fourth quarter. Clarkston closed with a 17-7 surge.
Nick Tatu unleashed some long-distance punishment with six 3-pointers on the night. Marcus Hardy added 10 points, Matt Dellinger scored nine and Mitch Baenziger chipped in with six points for the Wolves.
Dorrell Foster scored 10 and Urbane Bingham added nine points for North Farmington (9-2, 4-1), which suffered its first league loss of the season.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 44, ALLEN PARK INTER-CITY BAPTIST 42: Oakland Christian’ withstood ICB’s 16-8 fourth-quarter comeback to remain unbeaten in this MIAC Blue Division contest. John Van Nord nailed a career-high six 3-pointers and finished with 19 points for the Lancers (8-0, 5-0). Drew Perrin added nine points and Nathan Piasecki scored six for Oakland Christian. Ben Draper scored 17 and Nathaniel Packwood scored 11 for Inter-City Baptist (6-3, 2-2).
FERNDALE 93, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 81: Ferndale knocked Avondale out of a first-place tie in the OAA White Division with this 12-point win Friday. Willie Harvey exploded for 33 points and Joe Baker added 22 points for Ferndale, which outscored Avondale 51-43 in the second half. Jamerius McTear added 10 points for the Eagles (7-2, 5-2), which led 42-38 at the half. Ray Tillman uncorked 38 points and tony Harris added 19 points for Avondale. Tre Webb scored nine for the Yellowjackets (8-2, 7-2).
TROY ATHENS 57, ROCHESTER ADAMS 43: George Zachery had 11 points to pace Athens to this OAA White Division victory. Andrew Hammett had 13 points for Adams (6-4l 4-4).Royal Oak. Athens improves to 5-6 and 3-5 Adams falls to 6-4 and 4-4.
ROYAL OAK 58, OFORD 52: Royal Oak used an 18-10 run over the final eight minutes to turn a two-point deficit into a six-point win. Terrell Nickerson scored 16 points to lead Royal Oak (4-5, 3-2). DiAndre Smith and Mike Hatchett both added nine points for the Ravens. Chris Calvin scored 21 points with 14 rebounds and Mark Hazelwood added 14 points for Oxford (4-5, 2-3).
ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 65, CLARKSTON SPRINGFIELD CHRISTIAN 35: It was all Rochester Hills Friday, as the Eagles remained in second place in the FBAC Red Division with this 30-point win. DJ Szydlowski finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, Josh West added 16 points, Marquez Hatcher scored 12 and Aaron Berry added 10 points and five assists for Rochester Hills (8-4, 3-1). Alex Trull scored 20 for Springfield Christian (4-8, 2-2).
CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 60, DETROIT CRISTO REY 56: The Mountaineers withstood Cristo Rey’s 38-34 second-half to post this CHSL victory Friday. Donald Allen scored a season-high 26 points to lead the way. Richie Cross added 13 points and Ban Marcial scored nine for Everest, which led 24-18 at the half. Maurice Champion scored 18, Daron Hill added 13 and Eric Carter scored 11 for Cristo Rey.
