Oakland thinclads break three school records at The Summit League Championships
FARGO, N.D. – Autumn Cleverley, Erica D’Angelo, Megan Enzor, Jeanetta Francy, Anthony Halfmann and Desiree Pettiford broke school records for the Oakland University men’s and women’s track teams on the first day of The Summit League Championships in Fargo, N,D., Sunday.
On the men’s side, North Dakota State leads with 62 points followed by South Dakota State with 38 and Oral Roberts with 36. Oakland is in seventh with eight points. On the women’s side, North Dakota State leads with 79 points followed by South Dakota State with 42 and Southern Utah with 35. The Golden Grizzlies are fourth with 26 points.
“It was a day of mixed results,” said head coach Paul Rice. “The DMR taking over 10 seconds off the old mark was pretty impressive. Sara had a great race in the 3000. Kevin (Luce) and Darin (Lawrence) ran solid in getting to the finals. We had some kids that were a little off so hopefully we’ll put it all together tomorrow.”
For the women, the distance medley relay team of Cleverley, Pettiford, Enzor and D’Angelo placed second with a school record time of 12:07.74. They were in a dogfight the whole race, losing by less than five seconds to North Dakota State.
Lieblein ran 9:59.82 to place third in the 3000, the highest individual finish on the day by a Golden Grizzly. Micah Jones was fifth in the high jump (five feet, 4.25 inches) and the long jump (17 feet, 11.75 inches). In the prelims of the 60m dash, Jeanetta Francy ran 7.90. that broke the school record of 7.92 set by Megan Willemsen in 2009.
For the men, Oakland had a pair of fifth place finishes from Zack Jones in the 3000 (8:36.03) and the distance medley relay team of Alex Katona, Kyle Wilson, Andy Baurhenn and Steven Marcinkowski.
In prelim action, Darin Lawrence and Kevin Luce both qualified for tomorrow’s finals. In the 60m dash, Lawrence ran 7.17, the seventh fastest time and fifth fastest in OU history. In the 60-meter hurdles, Luce ran 8.28 to place fifth, the second fastest time in school history.
Anthony Halfmann set a school record in the 35-LB weight with a toss of 55 feet, seven inches.
