PREP ROUNDUP: Eagles sweep Immanuel; Stevenson drops Lake Orion
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester Hills Christian only won three games last season on the baseball diamond. The Eagles are already close to matching that total.
Rochester Hills opened the season at home Tuesday, posting a non-league sweep of Corunna Immanuel Christian, 10-1 and 8-1.
Freshman Misael Hernandez retired the first 12 batters he faced and gained the win in the opener for the Eagles (2-0). He finished with six strikeouts against three walks.
Jon Armitage pitched three shutout innings in the nightcap for the win. He struck out six and gave up an unearned run in the fourth. Jon Becker came on in relief and struck out three.
At the plate, freshman Brandon Rodriguez was 5-for-6 on the night with two singles, two doubles and four RBI. Hernandez was 4-for-6 with six RBI and senior Kyle Vandenburgh had two singles and two RBI for Rochester Hills Christian, who visits Burton Faith Christian Friday.
LIVONIA STEVENSON 4, LAKE ORION 0: Stevenson hosted Lake Orion Tuesday in the two team’s annual non-league affair and the Spartans came away with this shutout victory. Evan Pichota threw six shutout innings and had an RBI. While Mark Wagner also smacked a home run for Stevenson (3-0). Zack Zott pitched five shutout innings and for the Dragons (0-1).
AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 6, WARREN COUSINO 4: Avondale remained unbeaten on the season Wednesday with this win over Cousino. The Yellowjackets rallied from a 3-0 deficit, thanks to A.J. Susick going 1-for-3 with two RBI and Matt Andrus going 2-for-4 and scoring twice. Susick went seven strong innings, giving up one hit, two earned runs, six walks and struck out 10.
