TUESDAY’S BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Athens erupts for seven in sixth to topple Shrine

TROY — After dropping its season opener to Bloomfield hills Andover as part of a double header, Troy Athens has been on a tear.

The Red Hanes captured their fifth straight win under unfavorable rainy conditions Tuesday, topping visiting Royal Oak Shrine Catholic, 7-3, in a none-league baseball game.

Anthony Carrillo led the attack, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run for Athens (5-1), which broke open the game by scoring all seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hayato Ando was 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored a run, and David Mandziara finished 2-for-3, plated a run and scored once for the Red Hawks, who outhit Shrine 9-4.

Ando went six innings on the mound, giving up two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Shrine scored all of its runs in the top of the seventh. Mike Peaslee was 3-for-4 for the Knights.
