TROY — After finishing third in a tight OAA Red Division girls soccer race, Troy is trying to make up for it in the Division 1 postseason.

The Colts picked up their third straight district title Saturday, topping visiting Waterford Mott, 5-0, to advance to the regional semifinals.

Troy will face league nemesis Rochester Adams at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Orion, with Grand Blanc and Midland Dow playing in the other regional semifinal.

“We felt confident that we could win this district and the girls went out there and (provided it,” said Troy coach Brian Zawislak, whose team has been ranked in d-1 all season. “From here on out, there are a lot of good teams.

“We’ll face Adams on Tuesday, and then you have Grand Blanc on the other side and they beat us early in the year and Midland Dow is undefeated. Then you look at some of the other regionals, and (Troy) Athens, (Utica) Eisenhower and (defending state champ) Novi are all in the same region. It’s going to be very tough.”

Troy coasted against Mott, making its first district finals appearance. The Colts led 4-0 at the half and never looked back.

Irene young and Phylisha Drayton both scored two goal each in the first half, Madison Hirsch assisting on three of them and Erin Farley the other for Troy (17-2-2).

Jenny Gardner scored unassisted in the second half for the Colts.

Goalkeepers Alison Holland and Mallika Wadhawan extended the school record to 17 shutouts, with Holland dropping her goals-against-average to 0.35, which is on course to be a single-season school mark.

“Defensively, we have been very good, giving up single (digits) for goals,” said Zawislak. “We are very organized back there.

“Offensively, we scored four goals in the first half against Mott, so we were comfortable by the time we got to the second half,” said Zawislak.”Against Adams or if we go any farther, we’ll have some tough games.”
