Three golfers with local ties were named to the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association All-State Boys Golf Teams, released recently by the association for the 2011 season.

All three players hailed from Division 4 state champion Auburn Hills Oakland Christian. Juniors Tyler Coyne and Zach Preuss were named to the D-4 All-State First Team, while senior Nick VanBiesbrouck earned All-State Honorable Mention status.

In a rare move, a sophomore was named the 2011 recipient of Mr. Golf. Birmingham Seaholm’s Francesco Ruffino earned the honor to head up the nine-member All-State Super Team.

Ruffino, who had the best resume which included several top-five finishes at high-level tournaments, is joined on the Super Team by Pinckney junior Otto Black, Traverse City Central senior Patrick Colburn, Birmingham Brother rice senior Nick Dennis, Ann Arbor Greenhills sophomore Henry Do, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep junior Aaron Knutson, North Farmington junior Max Kollin, Richland-Gull Lake junior Bryan Vandenberg and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central junior Andrew Yeager.

Complete all-state teams can be found at www.migca.org.
