ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester and Rochester Stoney Creek appeared to be near images of one another on the soccer pitch Thursday evening.

The one difference was Dylan Knott.

The senior midfielder from Rochester Adams scored a goal and assisted on two others in leading the Highlanders to a come-from-behind, 3-2, victory over the visiting Falcons in the OAA Red Division opener for both schools.

“Dylan came up huge for us,” admitted third-year Adams coach Josh Hickey of one of the state’s top seniors. “He was in on all three goals for us. We had to come back being down at the half.”

Rochester (1-1-1, 0-1-0) led 2-1 at the break but couldn’t hold off Adams in the final 40 minutes. In fact, the Highlanders (2-0-0, 1-0-0) scored both the game-tying and go-ahead goals in a five-minute stretch.

Knott set up Brandon Sloan with the game-tying goal in the 63rd minute, then again assisted on Ted Hurst’s game-winner with just over 12 minutes to play.

Knott staked Adams to a 1-0 lead on a free kick goal midway through the first half.

The Falcons fought back when Jason Lee ran onto a Michael Bowyer pass and found the back of the net to tie the game. Bowyer scored an unassisted goal just before the half to give Rochester the short-lived advantage.”I thought we played very good. We possessed well and had chances. Dylan (Knott) was the difference. He burned us,” conceded Rochester coach Chris Purgatori. “We made a couple of mistakes and they were able to capitalize on them.”

Hickey, who is trying to replace eight starters, is impressed with his team’s ability to come back in a league game. The Highlanders were not tested much Tuesday in a 5-1 non-league win over Royal Oak.

“I thought both teams very well. It was a great game, typical of an Adams-Rochester game,” said Hickey.”I was pleased with the way we fought back. We had two great chances in the final 15-20 minutes and we scored on both of them. Rochester is a good team,
