Rochester runs all over L’Anse Creuse; Romeo avenges Troy

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Rochester figures to be a run-oriented team this season. The Flacons showcased that strength Thursday in their season opener.

One year after blanking Macomb L’Anse Creuse North, 28-0, Rochester racked up six touchdowns, all on the ground, in throttling the Crusaders by a 42-13 count.

Cody DeVoe scored the second, third and fourth touchdowns of the night, scampering in from 8, 8 and 2 yards for Rochester (1-0), which led 21-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at the half

T.J. Dean cashed in with a 22-yard TD run to put the Falcons up for good. Jack Glancy added a 1-yardplaung and James Ward scored on a 9-yard surge for the Falcons.  Michael Bright was 6-for-6 with extra points.

DeVoe collected 64 yards on 11 carries. Dean had 130 all-purpose yards and
Glancy was 8-for-11 passing for 95 yards for the Falcons.

Rochester’s defense recorded four sacks and four interceptions, led by John Doreshewitz’s two picks.

L’Anse Creuse, which trailed 42-7 early in the fourth quarter, was held to under 200 yards total offense.

ROMEO 16, TROY 3: A year ago Troy opened the season by thumping Romeo, 31-7. This time the Bulldogs got a measure of payback on the Colts.

Romeo never trailed in recording this home win the OAA-MAC crossover to open the 2011 campaign.

Sam Brunner’s 19 reception from the arm of Evan put the Bulldogs up 6-0. Richardson added a 6-yard run in the second quarter for a 13-3 lead at the break.

Rasmus Shovborg booted a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

The only points that Troy could muster was a 22-yard field goal from the leg of Sean Murphy, which cut the deficit in half to 6-3 late in the first quarter.
