Lutheran Northwest crushes Oakland Christian
ROCHESTER HILLS — A 27-0 lead after the first quarter propelled Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest to a convincing 43-0 shutout Friday of neighboring rival Auburn Hills Oakland Christian in MIAC football play.
Three different players scored touchdowns for the Crusaders, including three from Josh Morrison, two from Nathan Drews and two other scores from Ian Wellhousen.
It marks the third straight season that Northwest has defeated Oakland Christian handily.
Morrison scored the first three touchdowns for Northwest, which led 36-0 at the half before tacking on a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Morrison opened the scoring on a 35-yard punt return, caught a 12-yard TD strike from Drews and returned a second punt for another score, this time on a 60-yard sprint.
Drews, who was 4-for-6 on extra points, scored on a 12-yard scamper late in the first quarter to build a 27-0 advantage.
Wellhousen got on the board in the second quarter with a 5-yard run and Drews drilled a 25-yard field goal later in the frame for Northwest (2-1, 2-0), which has three league games remaining.
Wellhousen capped the scoring in the fourth stanza, this time scoring on a 60-yard run.
Wellhousen led the Northwest ground attack with 112 yards on 12 carries. Morrison had over 100 all-purpose yards for the Crusaders.
Oakland Christian slipped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
