SOFTBALL: Lakers receive little resistance in district, rollover Northwest, Oakland Christian

ROCHESTER HILLS — Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes is making a comeback on the softball diamond.

The Lakers advanced to the Division 4 regional Saturday with a pair of mercy wins, taking down host Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest, 12-2, in the semifinals and Auburn hills Oakland Christian, 14-0, in a D-4 district finals.

Locked in a 2-2 tie in the first game against Lutheran Northwest in the semifinals, the Lakers plated five runs in the fifth to blow the game open. WOLL Took advantage of five Northwest errors and eventually won the game in six innings.

Julie Mastromatteo had three hits, including a two-run single for WOLL.

Oakland Christian advanced with a forfeit win over Auburn Hills Christian Academy, which opted out of the tournament. The Lancers were no match for the Lakers in the finals, which lasted a mere three innings.

Mastromatteo and Lauren Robak each had two hits for Waterford Our Lady, which will host a regional next Saturday.
