OAA RED FOOTBALL: Charette reaches milestone as Dragons rout Royal Oak; Clarkston overwhelms Pontiac

ROYAL OAK — It was a record-setting night for Sean Charette.

The senior quarterback from Lake Orion finished 11-for-19 passing for 220 yards and four touchdowns in leading the visiting Dragons to a convincing 49-14 OAA Red Division triumph over Royal Oak.

For Lake Orion, it marked a fourth straight victory. For Charette, he now has 60 career touchdown passes, which is a new school record.

Jacob Miller finished with92 yards on seven carries and Mike Upshaw added eight rushes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Chaz Miller had two touchdown catches and hauled in five tosses from Charette for 66 yards.

It was Miller time for Lake Orion (4-1, 4-0), which had five touchdowns come from players with the last name of Miller. Jacob Miller scored on runs of 1 and 50 yards, while Chaz Miller had touchdown catches of 9, 13 and 16 yards for the Dragons.

Zach Arnold (30-yard run), Jeremy King (66-yard catch) and Upshaw (5-yard run) also scored touchdowns for Lake Orion, which outgained the Ravens 258-201 on the ground and amassed 478 yards of offense. King was 7-for-7 on extra points.

Royal Oak (1-4, 0-4) scored long touchdown runs of 84 and 72 yards, but the Ravens did so against Lake Orion’s reserves.

CLARKSTON 42, PONTIAC 18: Nick Baenziger fired a season-high five touchdown passes and the Wolves continued to cruise on the field with this decisive OAA Red Division victory Friday over the Phoenix.

Baenziger, who missed most of last season with an injury, finished 9-for-14 passing for 215 yards to pace Clarkston (3-2, 3-1), which hasn’t lost on the field but has forfeited two games due to the use of an ineligible player.

Clarkston led 7-0 after the first quarter and used a 21-6 run in the second quarter to break the game open and build a 28-6 lead at the half. The Wolves scored their other two touchdowns in the third period.

Joey Goss (34-yard reception), Evan Montgomery (27- and 28-yard TD catches), Mike Schwartz (4-yard TD catch) and Matt Dellinger (34-yard scoring reception) were on the receiving ends of Baenziger’s passes. Ben Kaminsky added a 1-yard run for Clarkston’s final score and Alex Barta was 6-for-6 on extra points for the Wolves.

Mark Cargle had 103 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Phoenix (2-3, 1-3), who trailed 42-6 entering the fourth quarter. Cargle scored on runs of 1 and 4 yards, while Chris Hall returned a fumble 25 yards for the other score for Pontiac.
