THURSDAY’S FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Lake Orion rebounds against Rochester; Clarkston thumps West Bloomfield

LAKE ORION — Lake Orion bounced back in a major way Thursday, as the defending Division 1 state champs shut down Rochester’s high-powered running game and recorded a 35-7 OAA Red Division victory.

It marked Lake Orion’s 15th straight win over Rochester.

Jacob Miller scored on runs of 1 and 4 yards for Lake Orion (1-1, 1-0). Corey Ester added two scores, one off a 20-yard reception and another on a 24-yard run.

Chaz Miller also scored the Dragons’ fifth touchdown on a 20-yard toss from Sean Charette, who finished the night with two touchdown passes.

Jeremy King had five extra points for Lake Orion.

The Dragons, who dropped their season opener to Oxford (41-20) six days earlier, scored seven points in the first, 14 points in the second and seven apiece in the third and fourth quarters.

Rochester (1-1-, 0-1) spoiled the shutout when T.J. Dean returned a fumble 73 yards for a touchdown.

CLARKSTON 34, WEST BLOOMFIELD 7: Clarkston added to its win total Thursday with this convincing OAA Red Division road win over the Lakers.

Mitch Baenziger finished 9-for-12 passing for 215 yards to lead Clarkston (2-0, 1-0). Baenziger added a 12-yard run for another score.

Mike Schwartz had three catches for 91 yards and had touchdown catches of 32 and 58 yards. Joey Goss added 90 rushing yards and scored on runs of 5 and 61 yards for Clarkston.
OAK PARK 41, ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 7: Denzel Wright scored on runs of 15, 9 and 3 yards in leading the Knights to the OAA White Division triumph Thursday over the Cougars.

Oak Park led 7-0 after the first quarter and 21-7 at the half. The Knight blew the game open with 13 more points in the third quarter for a 34-7 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Nathan Hoults had touchdown catches of 17 and 15 yards, both from the arm of Nathan Simms. Javon Tate added an 8-yard TD catch for Oak Park (2-0, 1-0).

Stoney Creek’s lone score came on a 1-yard plunge from Brandon Arduino in the second quarter. The Cougars dropped to 1-1overall and 0-1 in league play.

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 41, HAMTRAMCK 0: The Lakers evened their record at 1-1 on the year with this non-league blowout in Hamtramck Thursday.

WOLL scored 20 points in the first quarter and added seven points apiece in each of the final three quarters.
Christian Heiss scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards for the Lakers. Mitch Lascewski (40-yard run, Jake Doetsch (2-yard run), Ben Bellestri (3-yard run)and Lucas Neme (2-yard run) scored on the ground and Garrett Ross hauled in a Sal Mastromatteo 18-yard TD strike for Lakes.

Doetsch had three extra points, while Spencer Howell added two and Heiss one for WOLL.
