Defenders win fourth straight in blanking Washtenaw Catholic

BIRMINGHAM — Emmanuel Swiggins collected three touchdowns and Troy Christian Leadership Academy pitched its first shutout of the season Saturday.

The Defenders cruised past Saline Washtenaw Catholic Home School 236-0 to win a program record the Christian Football League of Michigan victory, the program’s fourth straight win overall.

Troy scored 12 points in the first quarter, added eight more in the second frame and six in the third to march past the Saints.

Swiggins had two touchdown catches and one rushing touchdown. He had two carries for 69 yards and two catches for 69 yards to pace the Defenders offensively.

MacLane Essian was 6-for-16 passing for 95 yards and one touchdown pass.

Mitchel Essian led the ground assault with 78 yards on six carries. Cortez Saine added 35 yards on five carries.

Mitchel Essian also had an interception for the Defenders, who recorded five sacks on the day.
