Beanziger, Wolves thump Royal Oak
ROYAL OAK — With its back against the wall, Clarkston continues to win on the football field.
The Wolves made it five straight Friday after having to forfeit the first two games of the season by topping Royal Oak, 45-7, in OAA Red Division play.
Clarkston, which is now in second place in the division, will host Oxford in the OAA Red-White crossover next Friday.
Senior quarterback Mitch Baenziger threw for three touchdowns to pace the Wolves. He finished the night 6-for-9 passing for 177 yards, connecting with receivers Michael Schwartz, Matt Dellinger and Mac Pearce for first-half scores, as the Wolves (5-2, 5-1) opened up a 38-0 gap on the Ravens by the half and never looked back.
Senior Joey Goss led the ground game with 12 carries for 103 yards and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the rout. Goss, the Wolves’ leading rusher this season, included a 50-yard TD sprint in his totals for the longest touchdown of the game.
Defensively, Clarkston has held its past two opponents to a combined seven points and allowed just 25 points the past three games. The Wolves have yielded only 86 points in seven games this eason and have not allowed more than 20 since a Week 1, a 28-21 decision over Adams which the Wolves had to forfeit.
Brandon Fredrikson scored on a 46-yard sprint in the third quarter for the Ravens (1-6, 0-6). Fredrickson had 12 carries for 105 yards and was 7-for-13 passing for 135 yards for Royal Oak, which has not won a league game in four seasons. Robert Gibson had 102 receiving yards on six catches.
