Ecker breaks school record as OU leads field at Detroit Titans Fall Classic
HARTLAND– Liz Ecker shot a school record 5-under-par 68 to lead the Oakland women’s golf team to a season-best score of 298 (+6) as the Golden Grizzlies grabbed the first-round lead in the Detroit Titans Fall Classic on Hartland Glen Golf Course (Par 73, 6,046 yards) on Saturday. OU leads Detroit (303/+11) by five shots.
“Today was a perfect day for scoring and Liz (Ecker) took advantage of it,” said OU coach Russ Cunningham. “The team as a whole has drastically improved their misses, resulting in fewer doubles over the last three rounds and their scoring is being rewarded for it. All nine scores at 84 or better shows the type of talent there is on the team and its making everyone better. Mara (Kovac) appears to be getting back in form and that’s great to see.”
Joining Ecker under par was Mara Kovac with a 2-under-par 71 while playing for the Oakland B team in the tournament. She helped lead that squad to a third-place standing (318) on day one. Ecker and Kovac are the first two women’s golfers to record two rounds under par in their career and currently stand in first and second place, ahead of UDM’s Olivia Richards (72).
Maya Parsons shot 2-over-par 75, while Alanna Gerber and Brandi Studer each shot rounds of 77. Kassandra Komma also broke 80 for the Grizzlies with a 78 today and Donna Fiscelli shot a career-low 81.
