OU’s Hamilton selected as candidate for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award
ROCHESTER HILLS – Reggie Hamilton is one of 30 finalists for the 2011-12 Lowe’s Senior Class Award, given to the men’s basketball student-athlete that excels on and off the court, announced on Friday.
Hamilton, a senior from Chicago, is a preseason Mid-Major All-America and All-Summit League first team selection.
“It’s truly an honor to be nominated for this award,” said Hamilton. “Being a college athlete takes a lot of responsibility to keep up with school work, do well in your sport and serve the community. I am honored and humbled to be a candidate for this award.”
Hamilton graduated this past summer with a degree in communications. He is furthering his studies in communications with the intent to begin the master’s program. Hamilton is the top returning scorer for the Golden Grizzlies, averaging 17.6 points per game and finished second in The Summit League with 187 assists.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the men’s Senior CLASS Award winner during the 2012 NCAA Men’s Final Four, which will be held March 31 and April 2 in New Orleans.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, Division I men’s coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
