— STAFF REPORTS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Arkansas and Oakland were headed in opposite directions Wednesday night.

The Razorbacks were red hot and headed for the tropics, while Oakland was frozen on the plateaus of Antarctica.

Arkansas took advantage of cold-shooting Oakland and cruised to a 91-68 non-conference victory over the Golden Grizzlies.

“That is a really good team we played tonight,” said Oakland coach Greg Kampe. “I was pleased with the way we came out in the second half. We could have been fighting with each other and getting mad, but we didn’t. We actually ran some offense in the second half and played much better.”

Travis Bader canned a career-high seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points, while Drew Valentine added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Oakland, which trailed by 28 points at the half.

OU outscored the Razorbacks 41-36 in the second half, but could close the gap.

Oakland shot just 5-for-20 through the first 11-plus minutes and found themselves down by 18 points, 32-14, with 8:21 remaining until halftime. The Golden Grizzlies would shoot just 29 percent (10-for-35) in the opening half compared to Arkansas’ 56-percent (22-for-39) and trailed 55-27 at the break.

Corey Petros scored six grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Golden Grizzlies on the glass and Reggie Hamilton reached double figures with 11 points. OU held a 41-40 edge on the boards but shot only 25-for-72 from the floor, a dismal 34.7 percent from the floor.

Arkansas still outscored Oakland 50-22 in the paint.

Six Razorbacks were in double figures, led by Marshawn Powell’s 20 points. BJ Young added 16 points, Mardracus Wade scored 14 and Rickey Scott, Julysses Nobles and Rashad Madden all scored 10 points apiece for Arkansas, which shot 37-for-69 from the floor, a fine 53.6 percent.

OU will travel to Grambling, La., for a game with Grambling State on Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. ET.
